What's Prince George's abilities from King Charles III
On February 17, Princess Kate shared artwork from Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis as part of her Shaping Us initiative, a campaign led by The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.
Among the drawings, one caught attention—an intricate sketch of a woman sitting in an armchair, thought to have been drawn by Prince George.
Social media users quickly took note, with many praising his artistic abilities and drawing parallels to his mother's photography skills and King Charles' talent for painting.
One Instagram user remarked, "George definitely got it from his mom!" while another said, "It looks like Prince George has inherited King Charles' artistic ability."
Artistic talent is a common trait in the royal family, with both Kate Middleton and King Charles III having their own creative pursuits. Kate, who studied art history at the University of St. Andrews, has become well-known for her photography, often capturing precious moments of her children.
As the patron of the National Portrait Gallery, she has expanded her passion through projects such as the 2020 "Hold Still" photography exhibition, which captured life in the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kate has also been actively encouraging young children to explore art. During a recent visit to the National Portrait Gallery, she took part in an interactive drawing session with kindergarten students.
Liz Smith, the gallery's director of learning and engagement, commended Kate’s approach, describing how she engaged with the children in a “cozy nook,” making the experience feel very personal.
"She was so naturally nurturing and attentive, blending in with the group. It felt like she was just one of the mums," Smith told PEOPLE.
Meanwhile, King Charles III has long been recognized as a talented watercolor artist. His paintings have been displayed and sold for significant amounts, and he has frequently discussed how painting offers therapeutic benefits.
Even as a child, King Charles' artistic talents were evident—early drawings of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, created when he was about five or six, have been auctioned, providing a glimpse into his early development as an artist.
Prince George’s artistic development
Prince George’s recent artwork isn’t the first time his creativity has caught the public’s eye. In December 2022, Prince William and Princess Kate shared a Christmas painting by George that depicted a reindeer.
The intricate piece, showcasing a snow-covered stag with birds nearby, closely resembled a greeting card from Wrendale Designs, sparking speculation that George had drawn inspiration from it.
Hannah Dale, the artist behind Wrendale Designs, expressed her excitement upon seeing Prince George’s work, calling it a "pleasant Christmas surprise." She commended his eye for detail, saying, "He has a great sense of form and color... It's a true honor to inspire any child to take up drawing or painting."
With such strong artistic influences from both his mother and grandfather, Prince George’s creative potential looks set to grow, possibly making him the next royal to make a significant impact in the art world.
