Elon Musk advisor Edward Coristine was previously fired for leaking data—Now holds a U.S. Government Role
Edward Coristine, now an advisor to Elon Musk, was previously fired for leaking data. His role in the U.S. government raises concerns about security and access.

Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old advisor in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was previously fired for leaking data. Now, he holds a key role with access to sensitive U.S. government systems, sparking concerns over security and oversight.
From cybersecurity intern to Government Advisor
Less than three years before Elon Musk selected him for a major role in reshaping the U.S. government, Edward Coristine was at the center of a heated dispute at an Arizona-based cybersecurity firm where he interned as a teenager. At just 17 years old, Coristine was suspected of leaking proprietary company data to a competitor, sparking concern among executives.

A recorded call from 2022, reviewed by CNN, reveals a conversation between frustrated Path Network executives debating whether to fire Coristine. One executive challenged the CEO, Marshal Webb, asking, “You’re willing to risk our entire network to a 17-year-old? Are you for real right now?”
Despite the suspicions, Webb opted to keep Coristine as an intern—not wanting to turn him into an enemy—but restricted his access to sensitive data.
Key figure in Musk’s Government overhaul
Fast-forward to today, and 19-year-old Coristine has transitioned from cybersecurity intern to senior government advisor under Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). While details of his exact role remain unclear, he now has access to multiple government agencies, including Homeland Security, FEMA, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
His rapid ascent has raised serious concerns among government officials and security experts. Critics worry about his young age, lack of experience, and past issues with handling sensitive information.
