McDonalds will face a boycott over DEI programs rollback
The famous American restaurant is facing a June 24-30 boycott prompted by The People's Union USA over the rollback of its diversity and inclusion programs.

The world-famous American food chain will face a boycott this week. The movement, powered by The People's Union USA, is set to start on June 24 and will last until June 30. It is happening because the company is rolling back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.
John Schwarz, founder of the Union, posted on Instagram and emphasized that when people hit big companies "wallets, they listen." This is part of the "Economic Blackout Tour," which also targeted Amazon, Walmart, and Target for cutting their DEI initiatives.

Trump's moves against DEI
When President Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office, he announced a series of executive orders aiming to eliminate "illegal DEI" in federal agencies and the private sector. These programs are focused on addressing discriminatory issues based on ethnicities or gender, making companies ensure equality among their members.
However, President Trump accused those programs of "reverse discrimination," as their priority is to fulfill this goal without offering job positions to people who are not part of these groups. Even Brandon Johnson, Chicago's mayor, was investigated by the DOJ due to his declarations about having "the most diverse administration in the city's history."

More companies will face boycotts
According to Schwarz, the Union is targeting other companies, like Starbucks, Amazon, Home Depot, and Lowe's. They are also planning an economic blackout on July 4. These boycotts seek to convince consumers not to purchase from or use the services of the targeted companies.
This week's "attack" on McDonald's comes while the big M is facing a sales drop. Their last quarter saw the largest drop in the U.S. since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The fast-food company did not comment or publish a statement about the boycott, and there is no further information about how it will affect the food chain's business.
