WhatsApp has faced a major disruption for both Android and iOS users, with many individuals unable to send messages.
The outage is affecting users across several regions, leaving many frustrated with the lack of transparency from the company.
Where is WhatsApp not working?
The outage has impacted users across the United States, with people in cities like New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles reporting issues. When did the WhatsApp begun showing problems?
According to DownDetector, the issues began around 7 p.m. EST in the U.S., which corresponds to midnight in the UK. While the outage affected millions, it was unclear how long it would last, as services like WhatsApp typically offer little transparency regarding the causes or duration of their outages.
WhatsApp’s lack of transparency on outages
Unlike many other services, WhatsApp does not provide a status page for users to check its operational status. While it does have a Twitter account for updates, it hasn’t been used in over five years. Users often find themselves in the dark about when to expect fixes during these disruptions.
This is not the first time WhatsApp has faced technical difficulties. Last month, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp all experienced simultaneous problems. During that incident, parts of the apps, including photos and other features, stopped functioning properly, leading to frustration across millions of users worldwide.
