Governor Newsom goes against democrats on transgender athlete issue: "It's deeply unfair"
California Governor Gavin Newsom, a longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, made his remarks during a conversation with Charlie Kirk on his new podcast, stirring political debates on gender, fairness, and sports.

In a candid conversation on the inaugural episode of his podcast This is Gavin Newsom, Newsom expressed his concerns about the fairness of such policies, drawing attention to the heated debate currently sweeping across the nation.
His remarks, which diverge from the Democratic Party's stance on the issue, were made during an interview with conservative figure Charlie Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump. As Newsom, who has been a vocal champion of progressive causes, takes an unexpected position on this topic, his comments are sure to ignite further political discourse surrounding transgender rights and athletics.
Governor Newsom to LGBTQ+ rights in the U.S.: "It's deeply unfair"
California Governor Gavin Newsom, a long-time advocate for LGBTQ+ rights who famously defied state law to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, has now suggested that Democrats are wrong for allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s college and youth sports.
“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It’s deeply unfair,” Newsom said on the inaugural episode of his podcast, This is Gavin Newsom. “I’m not struggling with the fairness aspect. I totally agree with you.”
Newsom made these comments during a conversation with Charlie Kirk, a prominent MAGA figure, and founder of Turning Point USA, an organization aligned with President Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr.
The governor also agreed that the most effective attack ads from Trump’s campaign targeted Vice President Kamala Harris’s stance on taxpayer-funded gender transition care for detained immigrants and federal prisoners.
“She didn’t even react to it, which was even more devastating,” Newsom said, adding that he believed a large majority of Americans disagreed with Harris's position. “Then you had the video [of Harris] as a validator. Brutal,” he remarked. “It was a great ad.”
Newsom speaks out to transgender controversy in college athletics
Kirk also pressed Newsom to speak out against AB Hernandez, a transgender high school athlete whose participation in women’s track events has sparked significant controversy. Newsom, who has four children, including two daughters, emphasized his deep respect for sports, noting that both he and his wife had participated in college athletics.
“I revere sports, so the issue of fairness is completely legit,” Newsom stated. He acknowledged how the controversy surrounding transgender athletes had become politically charged over the past few years.
Kirk challenged Newsom’s use of the term "weaponize," and the governor adjusted his language, opting for “highlight” instead.
Newsom's podcast debut comes after Politico reported his inspiration from figures like Bill Maher, known for his ability to find common ground with conservatives while challenging progressive dogma, particularly on issues like youth gender transition. During his interview with Kirk, Newsom distanced himself from gender-neutral language such as “Latinx,” called police defunding “lunacy,” and condemned “cancel culture,” while also agreeing that there had been leadership issues within the Black Lives Matter movement.
