In his eight week in office, President Donald Trump is accelerating his agenda, focusing on significant policy changes and uniting the republican party to avert a government shutdown. A key iniative is the proposed funding bill designed to maintain government operations beyond the looming shutdown deadline.

As the deadline approaches, Trump's administration is ramping up efforts to secure congressional support for the funding bill. White House officials are engaging in negotiations with key lawmakers, emphasizing the bill’s importance in maintaining government stability and strengthening national security. While Republican leaders largely back the proposal, internal party divisions and strong Democratic opposition pose significant hurdles. The president remains firm on his stance, urging swift legislative action to prevent disruptions in federal operations and reinforce his commitment to delivering on campaign promises.

Trump's proposal for legislation

The proposed legislation aims to fund federal agencies through September 30, increasing defense spending by $6 billion while reducing non – defense discretionary spending by $13 billion. The bill also emphasizes enhanced border enforcenment, reflecting Trump's commitment to bolstering national security.

House Republican leaders express confidence in passing the bill, heavily relying on Trump's endorsement to maintain party unity given their slim mayority. However, house democrats, led by minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, opose the bill, criticizing it for falling to protect key social programs like social security, Medicare and Medicaid.
