The U.S. government has confirmed a new measure that will be implemented at all airports starting in May. Passengers who fail to comply with the new regulations may be detained and miss their flight.

This move responds to a law proposed in 2005 following the 9/11 attacks and is being enacted after 20 years. We provide all the details about the new document you need to obtain.

Starting May 7, 2025, the Real I.D. will be required for all passengers traveling within the U.S. without a passport. This security measure aims to strengthen airport safety protocols.

The Real I.D. is a small gold star located in the upper-right corner of documents such as a driver’s license. It signifies that the license is issued by a government authority and not a counterfeit.

Passengers who do not have either a passport or a Real I.D. for domestic travel may be detained by airport security. This system is in place at all airports to ensure that individuals are properly vetted when they raise suspicion.

Passengers without proper identification are typically escorted to a small interrogation room where immigration authorities will verify their identity.
