Elon Musk has reclaimed his position as the richest person in the world, according to the Forbes 2025 list. With an estimated net worth of $342 billion, Musk surpasses his competitors, including Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Bernard Arnault.

This dramatic leap comes after two years in the second spot, driven by the growth of his companies, SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI. The new rankings also reveal that the wealth of billionaires continues to soar, with tech moguls increasingly influencing the global economy and politics.

Elon Musk surpassed Bernard Arnault

Elon Musk is once again the richest man in the world according to Forbes. He has now, finally, surpassed the luxury magnate Bernard Arnault by a staggering margin, after trailing behind him in the 2024 rankings. Arnault, whose main industry is luxury items from LVMH (Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, and Sephora), dropped to the fifth position with a net worth of $178 billion.

How is Elon Musk still the richest man in the world despite losing billions?

Despite losing almost $29 billion dollars in a single day, Elon Musk remains the richest person in the world due to the variety of his portfolio. While Tesla suffered a loss of 15% in a single day and the company’s market value has dropped 45% since its peak, Musk's net worth $126 billion as of March 2025.

However, he still has the top spot for the financial holdings he has in SpaceX, Tesla, and other ventures cushioning the blow.
