On April 10, 2025, a sightseeing helicopter suffered an accident and crashed over the Hudson River near Manhattan in New York City. The Bell 206 helicopter departed from Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 p.m. and crashed around 3:17 p.m. near Pier 40.
The accident resulted in six fatalities, including the pilot and a Spanish family of 5. While emergency responders recovered all six victims, 4 were pronounced dead at the scene and 2 were transported to the hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Agustín Escobar, CEO of the tech company Siemens, along with his wife and 3 children were the victims of the tragic accident according to law enforcement sources.
The family had just arrived to New York City from Barcelona earlier in the day. The identity of the pilot is still unknown.
They were recovered from the river, but none of them survived. The local excursion company, New York Helicopter, said that they did not know what had happened to the aircraft, which his company leased from its Louisiana-based owner.
