Crews respond to explosion-induced house collapse in Northwest Austin, multiple injuries reported

A reported explosion in northwest Austin caused a house to collapse, injuring four people, including a firefighter. Crews are investigating the cause, believed to be a gas explosion.

On Sunday morning, a house in northwest Austin collapsed following a reported explosion, leaving multiple homes damaged and several people injured.

The explosion occurred around 11:25 a.m. at 10407 Double Spur Loop, near Spicewood Springs Road and U.S. 183. Crews from the Austin Fire Department (AFD) responded swiftly to the scene.

Firefighters rescue three people from collapsed home

Fire crews arrived at the scene and discovered 3 people trapped inside the house. They were quickly pulled from the wreckage of the two-story house by Austin-Travis County EMS medics. AFD had incorrectly reported the address as Yaupon Drive earlier.

However, Austin's Fire Department confirmed that a firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation and had to be transported to the hospital.

Nearby homes suffer severe damage after Northwest Austin

Nearby homes also suffered significant damages, as one also partially collapsed, and many others were heavily affected. While authorities have cordoned off the area and evacuated residents for safety, power outages have also been reported. The explosion was seen from several miles away.

Emergency officials are looking into the cause of the explosion but believe it was likely due to a gas leak, possibly propane, according to KVUE news. The Texas Gas Service has confirmed that the house did not have natural gas service.
