Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky accused US envoy Steve Witkoff of spreading Russian narratives. This came after Witkoff declared that peace between Russia and Ukraine depends on the status of five Ukrainian regions.
These statements came after Witkoff held a five-hour meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin about a possible peace agreement. Trump's special envoy asserted that the peace treaty covered five regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson, which have been under Russian occupation since 2022.
