Gérard Depardieu, a legendary figure in French cinema, was convicted on May 13, 2025, for sexually assaulting two women during the filming of "Les Volets Verts" in 2021.
The 76-year-old actor, who has starred in countless films, was sentenced to an 18-month suspended prison sentence for groping a set decorator and an assistant producer while on set in Paris.
Gérard Depardieu's charges and trial
The allegations state that the incident occurred in 2021, between August and September, while filming "Les Volets Verts". The two women, a 34-year-old set decorator and a 54-year-old assistant producer, have said the actor "grabbed and groped them".
It wasn't until October 2023 that the women reported the incident, as the actor had just previously published an open letter in the "Le Figaro" newspaper, in which he wrote he had "Never, never have I abused a woman," that the set designer decided to report the actor.

Gérard Depardieu says he is innocent
However, the actor has firmly denied all accusations, and told the court he was not the man the 2 women described. "I don't see why I would grope a woman, her buttocks, her breasts," he said. "I'm not somebody who rubs himself up against people on the metro."
Despite Depardieu's claims, the court was not moved by his statements enough to absolve him of the responsibility. The actor has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct across multiple years, but since many of them have passed the statute of limitations, these claims cannot be brought to court.
