How did they escape?
Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick, during a local press conference, stated that her agency received the alert at 10:30 a.m. Since then, she has been cooperating with special units and federal agencies to find the remaining 10. Also, she said that the inmate received assistance for someone inside the prison.
The officers of Orleans Parish Prison noticed their absence during the morning headcount. When they finally entered, they found a large hole in the wall behind the cell's toilet. At the entrance, they found graffiti mocking the escape.
The phrases "We are innocent," "Too easy LOL," and "Most 9 hated" were used by these men to mock the police officers and underscore that their escape was a carefully planned operation that could have taken weeks to accomplish. In response, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill described the incident as "unacceptable" and said, "Someone clearly failed, and there are no excuses for it."
The prison remains on full lockdown as local and federal authorities ramp up their operations. If you have any information about them, please call 911 to help put these men back into custody.
