A plane crashed early Thursday morning in San Diego's Murphy Canyon neighborhood near Tierrasanta, causing multiple vehicle fires and road closures.

Early Thursday morning, a plane crash was reported in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood near Tierrasanta, San Diego, causing significant emergency response efforts including multiple vehicle fires and road closures.
The FAA has confirmed the aircraft was a Cessna 550, and according to local authorities, the plane was supposed to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

Details of the San Diego Murphy Canyon plane crash
While details of the accident are still scarce, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the plane crash happened just before 3:50 a.m. in the 10000 block of Sample Street, close to Salmon Street and west of the Admiral Baker Golf Course. The crash happened at a military neighborhood.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Division Chief Dan Eddy, the street "looks like something from a movie." As a result of the crash, multiple vehicles and about 15 homes were compromised and caught fire, which they are trying to contain. The fire department will be investigating whether the plane hit a power line.

Sadly, many of the people aboard the plane are dead. Chief Dan Eddy said that while more than one person was killed in the crash, all the fatalities were on the plane.
While the exact number of passengers is still unknown, he believes the plane could have sat eight to ten people, including the pilot. According to San Diego Police Department, one person was hospitalized, and two others treated with minor injuries.

Road closures after plane crash
According to Caltrans, California Department of Transportation, the I-15 northbound off ramp at Aero Drive has been shut down. Also, all southbound lanes on Santo Road are closed for emergency operations.
"We have jet fuel all over the place," Eddy said. "We have hazmat on scene right now, and we’ve asked for more resources to come for that."
