A fatal child custody case occurred in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Randolyn Allen, 43, was taken into custody after she shot and murdered her ex-boyfriend, Brett Daigle, 48. Police discovered the man with no signs of life at a residence on South Perkins Ferry Road where the shooting took place.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that Allen was charged with second-degree murder. The fight that turned violent happened
during a scheduled child custody handoff. The investigation continues to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

Allen shooted Brett Daigle repeatedly after a fight.

Official reports indicate that Daigle had traveled from Canyon City, Colorado, for a visit to see his children. During the session in Lake Charles, there was a fierce battle with Allen, who allegedly fired several shots at her ex-partner. Police discovered Daigle's corpse at the scene, and he was declared dead after suffering several gunshot injuries.

Allen was arrested on the spot and taken to the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where she is detained without bail. Local police stated that the shooting happened against a backdrop of ongoing child custody conflicts. "Detectives learned Allen discharged the gun during the heat of an argument that erupted unexpectedly," said Detective Larry Cormier, the man in charge of the investigation.

What sentence will Allen face?

Randolyn Allen is charged with second-degree murder, a felony in the state of Louisiana. Second-degree murder, the state law says, is the killing of another human being without premeditation but with malice. Allen could be sent to life imprisonment
without parole if she is found guilty, police said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary Guillory emphasized the gravity of such cases, especially when they involve child custody disputes. "Child custody exchanges can be complicated and risky situations. This case shows so tragically how emotions can turn into disaster," Guillory said in an interview.

Ongoing investigation of the Allen case in Louisiana

Official investigators continue to gather evidence to make sense of the facts. Detective Larry Cormier leads the investigation team, which is checking forensic evidence and taking statements from potential witnesses. No additional details have been released so far regarding what triggered the fatal fight.
