Trump criticizes Elon Musk for opposing GOP Tax plan: ‘very disappointed’
Once political allies, now fierce critics, Donald Trump and Elon Musk clash over a Republican tax plan that could reshape the 2024 campaign landscape.

The relationship between US President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has definitely deteriorated. A few minutes ago, President Donald Trump told the press about his relationship with Elon Musk, saying he is "very disappointed" after his former supporter attacked Trump's tax cut bill and future spending plans. He also emphasized, "Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we'll still have it," he said in the Oval Office.
The US President was critical of Musk's attacks on his bill because his proposal aimed to eliminate consumer tax credits for electric vehicles. This is something Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has opposed due to the potential increase in the federal deficit.

Musk blasts GOP Bill over Tesla cuts and rising debt
Musk, who recently quit as chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), vented his rage on X, the company he owns. He called the bill a "massive, outrageous, and disgusting abomination," holding lawmakers who supported it responsible for intentionally betraying the public. His post was not just personal irritation—it was a clear rebuke of the trajectory of the Republican Party.
Ironically, Musk had recently received an award at the White House for his service, an act Trump hailed as exemplary of fiscal responsibility. His DOGE tenure was followed by strict spending reductions and layoffs. But the new law—a perceived threat to Tesla's subsidies and set to take the national debt to $2.5 trillion is drastically changing their equation.
Musk Declares War on GOP Spending Bill
For years, Musk was one of the leading Republican campaign contributors, shelling out some $250 million to assist Trump's reelection. He even threatened to finance opposition efforts against Trump-betraying politicians. Now, in a sudden about-face, he has vowed to retaliate against politicians supporting the controversial bill, swearing, "Next November, we will fire every politician who betrayed the American people.".

Musk's rebuke is timely in a politically sensitive moment, when Senate Republicans are struggling to whip their thin majority into line to pass the spending bill before July 4th. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is already wrestling with internal dissent, as senators such as Rand Paul and Mike Lee concur with Musk and decry the federal expenditure as "excessive" and "out of control."
