North Korea sends thousands of troops to support Russia, as Kim Jong-un reaffirms loyalty to Putin and calls him a 'dear comrade' amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Kim Jong-un has expressed his support for Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting North Korea's clear stance in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. North Korea's Supreme Leader issued a statement through the KCNA news agency, noting that the bond between the Asian country and Russia is "genuine and unbreakable." He also highlighted the military alliance between the two countries.
Kim Jong-un also praised President Putin's exemplary leadership in the war against Ukraine, expressing full confidence that Russia will emerge victorious from the conflict. These statements were made after a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, in Pyongyang, North Korea.
North Korea backs Russia with troops and vows support in Ukraine war
North Korea's support for Russia is undeniable. Since April 2025, the Asian country has deployed between 14,000 and 15,000 troops in Russia. This support has intensified following the signing of the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement, approved in June of last year. Furthermore, North Korea's Central Military Commission announced that its primary objective is to "annihilate the Ukrainian occupiers and liberate the Kursk region."
The Asian country's leader sent a congratulatory message for Russia Day, referring to President Putin as his "dear comrade" and emphasizing that their relationship is that of true comrades in arms. He also promised to support Russia's position in Kyiv and strengthen international relations.

Russia Day is celebrated every June 12th to commemorate the 1990 declaration of state sovereignty, which marked the beginning of Russia's independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
