"Saturday Night Live" delivered another politically charged cold open this week, featuring an unexpected appearance from comedy legend Mike Myers. The sketch reimagined the now-infamous Oval Office session between Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, turning it into a satirical showdown filled with sharp jabs and chaotic interruptions.

Myers, known for his iconic roles in "Austin Powers" and "Wayne’s World," made a surprise return to 30 Rock as Elon Musk, stealing the spotlight with an over-the-top portrayal of the billionaire tech mogul. His exaggerated South African accent and eccentric behavior added another layer of absurdity to the already outrageous skit.

How did SNL recreate the tense Oval Office reunion?

The segment began with James Austin Johnson’s Trump sarcastically welcoming Zelenskyy: “I’d like to thank President Zelenskyy for dressing like casual Star Trek. We love Star Trek because there’s no DEI. The white guy was the leader and he bossed around Spock who was, I believe, Guatemalan.” Mikey Day’s Zelenskyy was constantly interrupted, setting the tone for the parody.

Bowen Yang’s JD Vance fueled the chaos, quickly cutting in with, “I have to jump in here because that’s how we planned this. You didn’t say thank you. You didn’t say anything about us being handsome.” He added, “Does the sign outside say Ukraine House? No, it says America House.” Trump turned the absurdity up with, “You say you wanna end this war, but frankly you don’t have the cards. I have Skip, Draw Four, and Get Out of Jail Free.”

The act reached its peak turmoil when Mike Myers entered as Elon Musk, receiving applause from the audience. “Uh Donald, what are you doing in my office? You know I’m the president now. I’m kidding! Maybe not!” Myers’ Musk then jumped up and yelled, “Legalize comedy! Legalize comedy!” mocking Musk’s unpredictable behavior. He also parodied Musk’s controversial firings, saying, “They’re saying I’m firing people with no cause. But I do have cause. It’s cause I feel like it.”

What was the public’s reaction to the sketch?

The cold open skit sparked mixed reactions from viewers. While some fans praised Myers’ return to the show and his spot-on interpretation of Elon Musk, others felt the parody relied too heavily on political satire. Some viewers were particularly critical of the depiction of JD Vance and the portrayal of the current civic landscape, feeling it was too on-the-nose.

Social media lit up with discussions about whether Myers’ performance was a highlight or a low point of the episode. However, despite some criticisms, many followers appreciated the absurd humor and nostalgic return of Myers to the SNL stage. His over-the-top take on Musk resonated with audiences, who saw it as a fitting tribute to the unpredictable nature of the tech mogul.
