A Florida couple's trip to Cancun took an unexpected detour when they allegedly assaulted airline employees at Miami International Airport after being denied boarding for their flight.

The shocking incident was captured on video, which occurred on March 2, 2025. The couple, who arrived late for their American Airlines flight, reportedly tried to force their way onto the plane, discarding airport staff and security measures.

According to Fox News, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office identified the individuals as Rafael Seirafe-Novaes, 40, and Beatriz Rapoport De Campos Maia, 29, both from Belize.

Shocking footage captured the entire incident when the couple, after arriving late for their American Airlines flight, attempted to force their way onto the plane at Miami International Airport around 8:35 a.m. They were denied boarding and became disruptive, ignoring no trespassing signs and verbal instructions from a ticket agent before pushing past staff and onto the restricted jet bridge.

According to the arrest report obtained by WSVN, Seirafe-Novaes allegedly shoved two employees, while Maia is accused of both shoving staff and throwing coffee at them.

Video footage later showed Seirafe-Novaes being escorted in handcuffs to a police car on the tarmac.

An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital, stating the airline is cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.

"Before boarding American Airlines Flight 2494 from Miami (MIA) to Cancún (CUN), law enforcement responded to the gate for two disruptive customers," the airline said in a statement. "Violent behavior is not tolerated by American Airlines, and we are committed to working closely with law enforcement."

It remains unclear if the couple will be banned from future American Airlines flights.

The flight was delayed by the incident but ultimately arrived in Cancún about 30 minutes later than expected, without the couple onboard.

Seirafe-Novaes faces charges of resisting an officer without violence and trespassing, while Maia is charged with two counts of battery and trespassing.

The couple posted bond for their release on Monday.

Under federal law, committing acts of violence at an international airport is a serious crime, and those found guilty could face up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $250,000.
