The 2025 Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from May 13 to May 24, will showcase the directorial debuts of Scarlett Johansson and Harris Dickinson. Johansson, famous for her Marvel work, will present Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jessica Hecht. The film explores the friendship between a 90-year-old woman in Florida and a 19-year-old in New York.

Emerging talent and Star-studded premieres set to shine at Cannes 2025

Harris Dickinson, known for Babygirl, will debut Urchin, a project he also wrote, focusing on a homeless man in London. These two debuts in the Un Certain Regard section highlight the festival's commitment to emerging talent and diversity.

In addition to these debuts, high-profile premieres include Eddington by Ari Aster, featuring Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, and Austin Butler. Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme and Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague will also compete for the Palme d’Or, promising a fiercely competitive race.

Out of competition, Mission: Impossible – The Last Reckoning, directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, will premiere on May 14. Apple’s documentary Stories of Surrender featuring Bono will also be showcased. Unconfirmed reports suggest Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest starring Denzel Washington may also make an appearance.

The opening ceremony will be hosted by Amélie Bonnin, with her film Leave One Day. Juliette Binoche will head the jury, marking the first time in 60 years that two women will consecutively lead the jury at Cannes. This year’s festival reinforces its status as a global cinematic event, offering a diverse and exciting lineup.
