Rockstar Games introduces Grand Theft Auto 6, featuring Jason and Lucia in a thrilling new adventure in Vice City. The game’s release has been delayed to May 2026, offering more time for its high-quality development.

The trailer everyone has been looking forward to for Grand Theft Auto 6 has finally come out, revealing to the audience the exciting narrative of the game. The action takes place in Vice City, introducing players to dual protagonists Jason and Lucia and their involvement in a web of conspiracy that will test everything they understand.
The trailer teased the deep connection between the player characters as they face danger in one of the liveliest and most dangerous locations in the entire GTA universe. Rockstar Games confirmed, much to the excitement of fans, that they are targeting a release date sometime in May 2026 (delayed from the original expected 2025 launch date).
Grand Theft Auto VI reveals second trailer after their delayed release
The new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer introduces players to the game’s two main characters, Jason and Lucia, and sets up the plot. The game takes place in the familiar location of Vice City that first appeared as a setting in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for the PlayStation 2, and the plot follows Jason and Lucia as they uncover a conspiracy that stretches the length of Leonida.
Alongside the trailer, the synopsis states that “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck stacked against them,” but when a simple job goes wrong, they find themselves on the worst side of the best place under the sun in America and have to rely on each other to survive.
Jason grew up around criminals, and at first he thought he could rise above his tumultuous upbringing by entering into the Army, but when he finished his service, he eventually returned to working for the local drug runners in the Keys. Then he met Lucia, and his future was set on a new path, whether for better or worse, he never realized.
Lucia, on the other hand, was raised to fight from the start, and she used those skills to fight for her family, getting deposited into the Leonida Penitentiary. After some lucky timing, she got out and is committed to changing her life and achieving the 'good life' her mother wished for her. Out of prison with a plan, Lucia will do whatever it takes to get there.
The trailer goes with the song Hot Together by The Pointer Sisters and finishes with a notice that the footage was captured on the PlayStation 5. Rockstar also released 70 new screenshots of the game that show off the world and characters.
Rockstar announces GTA VI will be delayed to 2026
Rockstar Games has released 70 new screenshots of Grand Theft Auto 6 and offers a glimpse into the game's characters, world, and other exciting features.
With months of speculation, Rockstar officially confirmed on Friday that GTA 6 has officially been delayed until May 2026. The company apologized for the delay, promising that they are still working hard to make this a quality product.
“We always strive to exceed expectations with every game, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no different. We appreciate your understanding as we take this extra time to ensure the game meets the level of quality you expect,” the company stated.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, voiced full support for the delay, stating that Rockstar needs more time to fully realize their creative vision for the highly anticipated game.
“Rockstar Games is taking the necessary time to craft a groundbreaking experience for Grand Theft Auto VI, one that exceeds audience expectations,” Zelnick said. “While we understand the global anticipation for this title, we remain committed to excellence and to delivering a multi-year period of growth for our business and value for our shareholders.”
Before the delay, it had been reported that many employees at Rockstar Games were doubtful that GTA 6 would launch in 2025.
This delay should impact the release schedule of other game publishers. A report from Bloomberg earlier this year indicated rival studios were reportedly holding off on committing to 2025 release dates for their own games until they saw whether GTA 6 met its deadline or pushed to 2026. The hope was that by delaying their releasing dates as a result of GTA 6 would allow their titles to have breathing room on each other instead of worrying about competing with GTA 6.
