Maya Hawke and Kelvin Harrison Jr. join ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ cast
Maya Hawke and Kelvin Harrison Jr. have joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming prequel film exploring the 50th Hunger Games and set to release in November 2026.

Maya Hawke and Kelvin Harrison Jr. have been announced as key additions to the cast of "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping", the highly anticipated prequel to the original Hunger Games film series. Hawke and Harrison will play the 2 victors from District 3 we eventually see in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: Wiress and Beetee.
The movie is based on Suzanne Collins' second prequel novel and is set nearly 25 years before the events of the first Hunger Games.
What is 'Sunrise on the Reaping' about?
The story has Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss and Peeta's mentor, as a main character, and it centers around how he became the victor of the Second Quarter Quell, which is a special edition of the hunger games that occurs every 25 years.
Every Quarter Quell has a special twist from the game-makers and, just like Katniss and Peeta's was that the tributes chosen would be from the victor's pool of each district; for the Second Quarter Quell instead of having 24 tributes, one boy and one girl for each district, the amount of kids sent to die would double.
In the original series, Haymitch was played by Woody Harrelson, but for the prequel, the future mentor of District 12 will be played by Joseph Zada.
