Britney Spears' reported vacation wrapped up with some tension following an incident on the return flight to Los Angeles. The headline-grabbing musician with a career and personal comeback more after years of problems made news again through reported in-flight incidents.

While the circumstances remain unclear, sources have confirmed that the Toxic singer lit a cigarette while traveling from Cabo San Luis, Mexico to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

According to multiple sources cited by PEOPLE, the singer was consuming alcohol and lit a cigarette in a chartered flight aboard, actions that violate federal aviation regulations.

Flight attendants on board the JSX plane were alarmed and instructed Spears, 43, to put out the cigarette— which she did. But authorities were alerted before the plane landed.

Once it landed at LAX, the Princess of Pop was met by authorities and issued a warning about her conduct, before being allowed to leave, PEOPLE confirmed.

“This isn’t her first warning,” a source told PEOPLE. “She doesn’t really abide by the rules.”

The charter operator JSX did not respond to a request for comment regarding the incident, though a representative for Spears did not respond to a request for comment either. The original report was first published by TMZ.

Britney Spears responds to smoking controversy and claims flight attendant tried to 'embarrass' her

The “Oops! … I Did It Again” singer has addressed the incident surrounding her smoking on a plane controversy. She apologized to anyone who may have been upset, but said she wasn't one who started the whole thing.

In an Instagram post on Friday, the pop icon claimed a friend put the cigarette in her mouth and lit it, leading her to believe that smoking might be permitted on the flight.

“My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me, so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!” the pop superstar, 43, wrote via Instagram

While she has apologized “to anyone I offended,” Spears also downplayed the incident, joking that the flight attendants always put her at the back of the plane anyway.

She described the entire thing as “actually incredibly funny,” and admitted her confusion with the plane's configuration, saying the drink holders being outside the seats made her think it might be for smoking.

“The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me," she said”, "which jeez I thought was kinda much, but she didn’t like me the moment I got on plane!!! Nobody was on the plane for the first 20 minutes, and she wouldn’t let me get out of my seat, I wanted to stand up !!! She acted so weird about making sure I sat down, and it was weird !!!"
