Walmart issued a voluntary recall for multiple food products due to potential health and safety risks. The recalled items, sold in Walmart stores nationwide, pose dangers such as bacterial contamination, allergen mislabeling, and foodborne illnesses.

The recall affects products sold over the past month, and customers are urged to check their pantries and refrigerators for any impacted items. Here’s everything you need to know about the recall, including which products are altered and how to get a refund.

What are the affected Walmart products?

1. Great Value Creamy Peanut Butter (16 oz)

  • Reason for Recall: Potential Salmonella contamination
  • Health Risks: Salmonella can cause fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. In severe cases, it can lead to hospitalization or death, particularly for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

2. Marketside Fresh Spinach (10 oz)

  • Reason for Recall: Possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes
  • Health Risks: Listeria poses serious risks for pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, confusion, and convulsions, and it can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant women.

3. Freshness Guaranteed Sliced Apples (14 oz)

  • Reason for Recall: Possible contamination with E. coli
  • Health Risks: E. coli infections can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, and kidney failure. This is particularly dangerous for children under 5 and the elderly.

4. Great Value All-Purpose Flour (5 lb)

  • Reason for Recall: Undeclared wheat (mislabeling)
  • Health Risks: People with wheat allergies or celiac disease may suffer severe allergic reactions, digestive issues, and immune system complications.

What should Walmart customers do?

If you purchased any of these products, here’s what you need to do:

  • Check Your Pantry and Fridge: Look for the UPC codes and expiration dates provided by Walmart to see if you have any recalled items.
  • Do Not Consume: If you have any of these products, do not eat them. Dispose of them immediately or return them for a full refund.
  • Seek Medical Attention If Necessary: If you or someone in your household consumed a recalled item and is experiencing symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or stomach cramps, contact a doctor or healthcare provider immediately.

Walmart has also set up a customer service hotline to assist shoppers with questions about the recall and refund process.

The company has assured customers that food safety is a top priority and that the company is working closely with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address the issue.

In a statement, Walmart urged customers to stay informed about recalls and practice proper food safety precautions. The company has already removed affected products from store shelves and is conducting further internal investigations to prevent future incidents.
