Popular mac & cheese brands have been recalled from some US grocers by the FDA

Mac & Cheese is one of the Americans's favorite dishes; specially, while watching the Super Bowl with family. However, if you were planning to eat this quick and easy mac & cheese on the following days, you must be very careful.

There has been 2 cases in which popular mac & cheese brands have had to be recalled this Wednesday. We are talking about Wegmans and Dierbergs' Kitchen.

Which Mac & Cheese products have been recalled by FDA in the US?

Wegmans' gluten-free mac & cheese

No, this recall it’s not because of undeclared wheat. In this case, the recall was announced on Wegmans' website on Wednesday, February 5.  The reason? “Possible presence of small pieces of metal”. While Wegmans' website affirms that "all product may be returned for a full refund", they are not specific about where that particular lot was distributed. And, as we know, Wegmans's product are distributed in many stores across the U.S. including: Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Amazon, and at regional grocery chains

These metal fragments are possibly the result of manufacturing equipment breaking off in the production process, though this could also be the result of aluminum foil or another exposure.

Dierbergs' Kitchen mashed potatoes mac & cheese

This Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given a Class II classification to a Dierbergs' Kitchen's product that was advertised as being mashed potatoes; but is actually Mac & Cheese. This means the product carries an undeclared allergen of wheat.

A Class II recall refers to situations when "use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences" or if the chance of "adverse health consequences is remote."
