Chocolates recalled nationwide over undeclared milk allergen, FDA warns
Weaver Nut Company recalls chocolates after FDA notice about a possible undeclared milk allergen.

Weaver Nut Company has recalled several batches of it's chocolates after realizing a labeling issue that could have a danger to those with milk allergies. The company proceeded with a voluntary recall for precautionary measures hoping to address the matter before it would affect any customers.
No reports of illness have been submitted according to FDA officials. However, Weaver Nut Company is advising anyone who purchased the chocolates recently, to check their original packaging and to take caution.
Recall details and affected products
The recall applies to semi-sweet chocolate nonpareils with white or Christmas-colored seeds, sold under specific lot numbers at retail and grocery stores across the United States. According to the FDA, the problem was initially identified when a wholesale customer contacted the company regarding product labeling.
Laboratory testing subsequently identified milk proteins present in the chocolates even though it was noted as milk-free labeling. The full list of lot numbers can be found on the FDA's website and in the company's recall notice.
Next steps for consumers and company action
Customers who bought the chocolates and are milk allergic, or who shop for someone who is, are advised not to eat the products. Weaver Nut Company states that consumers can return any affected products back to their point of purchase for a full refund, even if the package is opened.
The company is working to find the cause of the labeling error with the advice of the FDA so that the problem does not occur again. Customers can obtain more information from Weaver Nut at 717-738-3781 (ext. 122). or by email at cwesterhoff@weavernut.com with any questions or for updates.
