On 2025, Florida will make an important step to improve better salary conditions with a progressive increase on minimum wage, getting to be one of the states with better remunerations in the US. This change will implement in order to the Second Amendment, approved in 2020, in which offers to get a better economic stability in front of inflation and increase of cost of living.

The establish plan for Second Amendment anticipate annual increases to the minimum wage up to 15 dollars per hour in 2026. This measure marks significant progress for Florida workers, in particular whose one with low salary, such as hotels, minority commerce and food services.

How much will increase the minimum wage in Florida?

Starting on September 30, 2025, Florida’s minimum wage will rise to $14 per hour, paving the way to a statewide $15 per hour by 2026. This wage increase is part of a gradual implementation process established by Amendment 2, approved by Florida voters in 2020. The amendment mandates incremental raises to reach the ultimate goal of $15 per hour.

For tipped employees, the base wage will also increase to $10.98 per hour in 2025 and further to $11.98 per hour in 2026, ensuring fair compensation that aligns with the state’s minimum wage laws.

The wage increase is expected to have far-reaching benefits:

  • Improved Living Standards: Workers in low-paying industries will gain greater financial stability, enabling them to meet essential needs and contribute to the economy.
  • Economic Stimulation: Increased wages are likely to boost consumer spending, benefitting local businesses and fostering economic growth in Florida.
  • Sector-Specific Benefits: Industries like hospitality, tourism, and retail—major employers of minimum wageworkers—will see improved labor conditions, reducing turnover rates and enhancing productivity.

A National benchmark for fair wages in Florida state

With the planned increase, Florida joins other states such as California, Washington, and New York in setting higher minimum wage standards. This move highlights the growing recognition of fair wages as a vital component of economic and social progress.

In contrast, the federal minimum wage remains at $7.25 per hour, underscoring Florida’s progressive approach to labor policies and its commitment to supporting its workforce.

Employers across Florida must prepare to comply with the new wage standards. Ensuring timely adjustments to payroll and maintaining clear communication with employees will be essential for a smooth transition. Businesses in sectors reliant on tipped employees must also update their wage structures to meet the revised requirements.
