Starting March 20, 2025, New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) will dedicate Thursdays to issuing Real IDs at licensing centers across the state. This initiative is designed to make the process of obtaining a Real ID easier for residents, adding around 4,500 additional appointments each Thursday.

Why you need a Real ID starting May 7, 2025

As of May 7, 2025, all U.S. residents will be required to present a Real ID or passport to board domestic flights or enter federal buildings. This law is part of the REAL ID Act, and New Jersey's “Real ID Thursdays” program aims to help residents meet this new federal requirement.

How to schedule your Real ID appointment in New Jersey?

The MVC’s new initiative allows individuals to apply for a Real ID or renew their existing one, even if their license is due to expire within three months. With a significant increase in demand for Real IDs, MVC has adjusted its scheduling system to accommodate as many residents as possible.
