Social Security payments up to $2,000: Who’s receiving checks on April 9 in the U.S
Millions of Americans will receive their Social Security payments this April, with the next round of checks set to be distributed on Wednesday, April 9, based on recipients' birth dates.

The upcoming Social Security payments have many recipients wondering when they will receive their monthly benefits. With a few important dates ahead, those depending on Social Security must stay informed about their scheduled payments.
For the month of April, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is distributing benefits in a staggered manner, and understanding the timing is key. As the first round of payments' approaches, let’s take a look at who will be receiving their checks and what you need to know for the month.
Who is receiving Social Security payments on April 9?
Out of the 65 million people in the U.S. receiving retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits, many get paid on one of three Wednesdays each month, according to a staggered system based on their birth dates.
For April, the first of these Wednesday payments will be distributed on April 9, for individuals born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
Full April 2025 Wednesday payment schedule:
Wednesday, April 9: Recipients born from the 1st to the 10th
Wednesday, April 16: Recipients born from the 11th to the 20th
Wednesday, April 23: Recipients born from the 21st to the 31st
Who gets paid outside this timeline?
If you started receiving retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits before May 1997, your check will be issued on the 3rd of the month. For April 2025, this group received their payment last Thursday.
Additionally, individuals who receive benefits under a separate SSA program known as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) follow a different payment schedule. SSI, a needs-based program, pays its 7.4 million recipients on the 1st of each month. Thus, SSI payments for April were distributed last Tuesday.
If any of these payment dates fall on a weekend or holiday, payments are moved to the nearest working day.
It's also important to note that some people in the U.S. receive both SSI and regular Social Security. In such cases, unless the 1st or 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, individuals will receive SSI on the 1st and their regular Social Security on the 3rd.
You can find the SSA’s complete 2025 payment calendar on their official website.
