Are you eligible for a $1,400 Stimulus Check from the IRS? Here's how to apply and what you need to know
Millions of Americans may still be missing out on up to $1,400 in stimulus payments and other tax refunds. Find out if you're eligible and how to claim these unclaimed funds before the deadline.

With deadlines fast approaching, many Americans may still be missing out on unclaimed stimulus checks and tax refunds. If you haven't received your $1,400 stimulus check or filed your 2021 tax return, there’s still time to claim your share of uncollected funds.
The IRS is working to distribute billions in Recovery Rebate Credit checks and unclaimed refunds, but you need to act soon. If you qualify, your check could be sent automatically, but only if you've filed the proper paperwork on time.
Could you be missing out on $1,400 from the government?
If you haven’t received your $1,400 stimulus check yet, you might still be eligible. The deadline is fast approaching, but there’s still time for qualifying individuals to claim their funds.
Additionally, many taxpayers may have missed out on refunds from previous years due to not filing their income tax returns.
In December, the IRS started distributing around $2.4 billion in Recovery Rebate Credit checks to over 1 million taxpayers who hadn’t claimed them. However, the final deadline is coming up this April.
In a separate update, the IRS reports that 1.1 million Americans haven't filed their 2021 taxes and are missing out on $1 billion in refunds. If the tax return isn't filed by the deadline, those funds will revert to the U.S. Treasury.
In Mississippi alone, taxpayers are missing out on approximately $8.28 million, with about 9,600 people potentially eligible to receive an average refund of $701.
Who qualifies for the stimulus check?
The IRS says over a million taxpayers did not claim their Recovery Rebate Credit for 2021. This refundable credit is for individuals who did not receive one or more Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
How do you claim your stimulus checks, and how much is it?
If you qualify, you don’t need to take any action. The IRS will send the payments automatically, either by paper check or through direct deposit if you've provided bank information with your 2023 tax return. A separate letter will notify you of the payment.
What if I didn't file my 2021 taxes?
If you haven’t filed, you must do so by April 15, 2025, to claim any missed refunds. While you might still be eligible for the stimulus check, it’s essential to file your taxes to receive any owed payments.
