Good news, Floridians! Here’s the new minimum wage increase announced for 2025
Starting on September 30, 2025, Florida will implement a $14 per hour minimum wage as part of a long-term plan to improve wages for workers.
Since 2009, the federal minimum wage in the United States has been stuck at $7.25 per hour, with no significant changes. Ultimately, changes were needed. However, Florida chose a different path. Beginning in 2023, through the adoption of Amendment 2, the state began to raise the minimum wage in Florida from $10 to $15 an hour, which provides a path forward for improving wage and labor conditions.
With the increase occurring in 2025, Florida's minimum wage of $14 per hour, is certainly a continued step toward more economic equity and labor conditions in the state.
Florida Minimum Wage 2025: When will the new wage increase take effect?
The new minimum wage will become effective in Florida on September 30, 2025, due to the planned gradual wage changes approved by voters in 2020. The plan laid out a gradual assessment to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026, allowing millions across Florida to be positively impacted.
The new minimum wage in Florida ($14), represents an increase from the present $13 an hour (last in effect since September 2024). This increase in overall wages applies to both full and part-time employees and is part of improved purchasing power and addressing issues of labor inequality.
With this new adjustment, the new minimum wage for tipped employees will be $10.98 per hour (the amount calculated is $14 minus the tip credit). This increase will bring the baseline salary closer to fairness and is not dependent on the tips.
