Publix announces four new Store locations across the U.S.—See the full list
The popular supermarket chain Publix announced plans to open four new stores across multiple states, focusing on fresh food, deli options, and competitive pricing to attract more customers.

Publix is continuing its rapid growth in the United States by opening four new outlets across Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio. With its focus on fresh food, deli, and bakery, the chain of supermarkets is making itself available for competition with industry giants like Walmart and Kroger by offering lower prices as well as ready-to-eat food at accessible points.
The new locations are landmark growth for Publix, especially in Kentucky, where the company will more than double in size. With a focus on customer service—coffee and liquor store in some stores—Publix aims to win over new shoppers while maintaining family roots.
Publix opens four stores across the United States
Well-known for its deli, bakery, and fresh food selections, Publix is adding new stores in Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio over the coming months.
Publix growth shifted into high gear in Kentucky in 2024. There are only three stores presently open in the state, but that will more than double as the chain further expands across the country.
“We’re excited to open our second location in Lexington, Kentucky,” said Jared Glover, Publix’s media relations manager, in a statement to Spectrum News.
Glover also encouraged customers at the new stores to visit and experience Publix: "We invite customers to start their shopping with our Pours café; they can grab a coffee or any one of our delicious beverages, or relax and refresh with an açaí bowl or a smoothie."
Where the new Publix stores will be located?
- Charlotte, North Carolina: Publix will open a store this Wednesday, May 28, at Creek Crossings, 12925 Albemarle Road. This will be the 25th store in the area.
- Lexington, Kentucky: The new store will be located in the northern part of the state, specifically at The Fountains at Palomar shopping center, 3855 Fountain Blue Lane. The grand opening is scheduled for June 4, 2025, at 7 a.m. The store will cover more than 16,000 square feet and will include an adjacent Publix Liquors offering beer, wine, and spirits for customers of legal drinking age.
- Gainesville, Georgia: The next opening will take place on September 12 at Limestone Marketplace in Riverbrook Village, 3715 Wahoo Falls.
- Cincinnati Metropolitan Area: Although Publix has not yet opened stores in Ohio, it has confirmed plans to expand in this area. The company has acquired land and signed lease agreements at strategic locations near the Kentucky-Ohio border, but has not yet announced the exact location of the new store.
Publix expands while continuing its family legacy
The American supermarket chain was founded in 1930 by George W. Jenkins in Winter Haven, Florida.
Although the heirs of the billionaire fortune continue the family legacy and remain in charge of the company, Publix is the largest employee-owned food retailer in the United States.
Approximately 80% of the company is owned by current and former employees, while the remaining 20% is held by the Jenkins family.
According to The Sun, the Jenkins family has an estimated net worth of $11.2 billion thanks to their association with Publix.
