Argentina vs Colombia: A 1-1 in the last minutes for the World Cup Qualifiers
The match happened last Tuesday, despite Argentina's team was one man less

Argentina and Colombia tied in Buenos Aires last Tuesday. Despite Colombia leading for most of the match, Scaloni's team managed to score in the last minutes to end the game 1-1, securing Argentina's qualification and creating trouble for Colombia.
The Argentinian national team played the match having already qualified first in the CONMEBOL standings. The result did not affect their position in the table, but Colombia needed the win to avoid the playoffs for the remaining spots. Colombia is now in sixth position, directly qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, but only 4 points ahead of Venezuela.
Two goals in both halves
Luis Fernando Diaz scored the first goal of the match in the 24th minute. After an amazing run from midfield, the Colombian player found space between the Argentinian defense and scored to put Colombia in the lead at the end of the first half. Enzo Fernandez's goal was disallowed due to an offside position.
In the second half, both teams had opportunities to score, but only two shots reached the Colombian goal. Despite Argentina being reduced to ten men due to a red card for Enzo Fernandez, for kicking the head of a Colombian player, Thiago Almada found space in the 81st minute, leaving two Colombian defenders on the ground.
The FIFA World Cup Champion
The match took place at El Monumental Stadium in Argentina. If Lionel Messi's team had lost, it would have been their fourth loss in the qualifiers as the current World Champion. They lost to Uruguay in Buenos Aires on November 23, to Colombia in Barranquilla in September 2024, and to Paraguay in Asuncion in November 2024.
There are only two more matches left to define which South American teams will qualify for the 2026 World Cup. In September, Colombia will face Bolivia at home and Venezuela away. The last match will determine which nation qualifies directly. Argentina will also face Venezuela at home and Ecuador away in the same month.
