Where was the winning ticket sold?
The $10 million Powerball ticket was purchased at Petal Food Mart in Petal, Mississippi. This local convenience store has now joined the list of lucky retailers that have sold winning Powerball tickets.
According to Powerball, a single ticket was sold in the city of Pearl, after matching all six numbers in the Double Play drawing Monday, Jan. 10.
Lottery winners in Mississippi have up to 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize. If the jackpot remains unclaimed within the timeframe, the winnings will go toward state-funded programs.
Lottery President Jeff Hewitt described it as a "milestone" win.
“Not only do we have our first Powerball Double Play top-prize winner, but this is also the largest lottery win in our state lottery’s history,” he said in the release. “It’s an exciting day for players and retailers.”

The winner spent an extra $1 on the Double Play feature, giving them another chance to play their numbers in a separate drawing, according to Powerball's website.
The winning numbers in Monday's Double Play drawing were 2-21-34-38-44 and Powerball 19, results show.
How to play Powerball?
To win the Powerball jackpot, a player must match all five white balls plus the red Powerball. The probability of hitting the jackpot stands at 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets are available for purchase on the day of the drawing, but the sales cutoff times and prices differ depending on the state.
Powerball drawings take place on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET. They are broadcast live and can also be streamed online. The game is available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
