The Hollywood Bowl has unveiled its exciting 2025 summer lineup, and one of the biggest highlights is Cynthia Erivo starring as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Alongside Erivo, the season will also feature performances by Hugh Jackman and other major stars, making it one of the most star-studded summer lineups in recent years. Cynthia Erivo in "Jesus Christ Superstar"
Singer and actor Cynthia Erivo has been chosen to portray Jesus in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl, as part of its highly anticipated 2025 season lineup, announced Tuesday by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Erivo, an Academy Award nominee for her standout performance in "Wicked", will take center stage in a production helmed by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Sergio Trujillo. This staging of "Jesus Christ Superstar" also marks the return of summer musicals to the Bowl, following a hiatus that began with the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020.
"An evening with Hugh Jackman"
The Hollywood Bowl’s summer season will kick off in June with a special opening night performance by award-winning actor and singer Hugh Jackman. He will perform a selection of songs from "The Greatest Showman", "The Music Man", and other notable productions.
Jackman will be accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Thomas Wilkins, along with musicians from Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA). This one-night-only gala serves as an annual fundraiser, supporting the LA Phil’s music education programs.
