Jeff Bezos has ignited a heated debate among James Bond fans after posing a simple yet powerful question: Who should be the next 007? With Amazon now in control of the legendary franchise, speculation is running wild—and one name stands out above the rest. Henry Cavill, long considered a top contender for the role, has emerged as the fan-favorite, with supporters rallying across social media to push for his casting.

As discussions gain momentum, Cavill's previous brush with the franchise resurfaces. The British actor was once a finalist for the role before Daniel Craig ultimately secured it. Now, with a new era of Bond on the horizon, many believe it's finally Cavill's time to don the tuxedo. Will Amazon and the Bond producers take note of the overwhelming fan support?

Henry Cavill’s fans dominate the conversation

Bezos’ post quickly became a battleground of fan opinions, with names like Tom Cruise and James McAvoy surfacing as potential contenders. However, it was Henry Cavill’s supporters who dominated the conversation, flooding Bezos’ replies with GIFs and images of the British actor in full 007 mode. Given Cavill’s long-standing association with Bond rumors, this enthusiastic response was hardly unexpected.

Cavill’s could have been Bond in 2006

Cavill was once on the brink of becoming James Bond, having auditioned for the role in the 2006 reboot "Casino Royale". Director Martin Campbell later revealed that Cavill’s audition was outstanding, but he ultimately lost the part to Daniel Craig.

“He looked fantastic, his acting was great,” Campbell told Express UK. “If Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He was in incredible shape, very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little too young at the time.”

Despite Cavill’s enduring popularity among fans, Campbell previously suggested that age might be a limiting factor. At 40 years old, Cavill would likely be around 50 by his third Bond film, considering the multi-year production cycle of each installment.

Amazon secures creative control over '007'

The transition of power marks a historic shift for the James Bond franchise. Longtime producer Michael G. Wilson, whose involvement with 007 spans nearly six decades, has announced his retirement from film production to pursue artistic and charitable endeavors.

“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects,” Wilson stated. “Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”

His producing partner and half-sister, Barbara Broccoli, echoed similar sentiments, expressing gratitude for her years dedicated to preserving and expanding the legacy of their father, Cubby Broccoli, who helped shape the Bond franchise into a cinematic powerhouse.

“My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father,” she shared. “I have had the honor of working closely with four incredibly talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of brilliant artists within the industry. With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael stepping away from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”
