Sean 'Diddy' Combs challenges Attorney Tony Buzbee's legal standing amid ongoing sexual assault lawsuits

Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team has filed a motion to bar attorney Tony Buzbee from practicing in New York's Southern District, amid Buzbee's representation of numerous clients alleging sexual misconduct against Combs.

In a significant legal maneuver, Sean "Diddy" Combs' defense team has filed a motion to prevent attorney Tony Buzbee from practicing law in the Southern District of New York. This action arises as Buzbee represents numerous clients alleging sexual misconduct against Combs, intensifying the legal battle between the high-profile figures.

The motion, submitted on February 25, 2025, contends that Buzbee's "egregious misconduct warrants denial of the privilege of appearing in that district." This development adds another layer to the complex legal proceedings surrounding Combs, who is currently detained on charges including sex trafficking, prostitution, and racketeering.

Combs' legal team challenges Buzbee's credentials

Combs' attorneys argue that although Buzbee represents multiple plaintiffs in civil lawsuits against Combs, he lacks the necessary authorization to practice in the Southern District of New York. They claim that his previous application for admission was denied, requiring case-by-case approval for his involvement in ongoing proceedings. The defense emphasizes that Buzbee's alleged misconduct should disqualify him from participating in these cases.

In response, Buzbee has publicly stated that he holds a license to practice in New York and has described reports of his ineligibility as misleading. He continues to represent over 100 individuals who have filed sexual assault lawsuits against Combs, including 25 minors. Buzbee maintains that his commitment to these clients remains steadfast despite the challenges posed by Combs' legal team.

Escalating legal tensions amid high-profile allegations

The legal confrontation between Combs and Buzbee has intensified following a series of serious allegations against Combs. In November 2023, singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of prolonged physical and sexual abuse, leading to a swift settlement. Subsequently, in September 2024, Combs was arrested on federal charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, with accusations of operating a criminal enterprise involving sexual exploitation. These events have prompted numerous additional lawsuits, with Buzbee at the forefront of representing the alleged victims.

The motion to disqualify Buzbee could significantly impact the trajectory of the civil lawsuits against Combs. By challenging Buzbee's participation, Combs' defense aims to weaken the plaintiffs' legal representation, potentially influencing the outcomes of these cases. As Combs awaits his trial, scheduled for May 2025, the legal strategies employed by both sides will be crucial in determining the resolution of the numerous allegations he faces.
