Controversial pole-dancing video sparks outrage against NYPD detective
Melissa Mercado, a detective with the New York Police Department, has gone viral for doing a pole dance on rapper S-Squire's music video 'Doin That.' Mercado is a seven-year veteran at the NYPD.

A big little scandal is rocking the New York Police Department (NYPD) after a detective named Melissa Mercado was caught dancing in her underwear in a music video. Mercado was shown pole dancing and posing on a bed in a video published by World Hip Hop of the song “Doin That”, by rapper S-Quire. The clip has been on YouTube for three weeks and already has 1.2 million views.
Although the woman's name does not appear in the video credits, police sources confirmed that it is indeed her. The officers quoted in the report by news outlet The Post questioned the need for appearing in the video, especially when she is on a paycheck of a $144,000-a-year. Mercado works as a detective for the Bronx Special Victims Unit.

Pole-dancing video shocks NYPD
As the seven-year veteran of New York’s Finest appeared in a music video published by World Hip Hop, she was shown shaking her body while wearing only a thong and a skimpy bra. Mercado's appearance in the video generated diverse opinions within the police, and that there are detectives who were left “speechless” after seeing it. “I have no words,” one disgusted detective said.
There were also those who stated they don't care what women do outside their job in the police. “What she is doing really has nothing to do with her status as an employee, as a NYPD detective,” a police union source told The Post. That same person highlighted that Mercado in the video “is not wearing NYPD paraphernalia” or anything that indicates that she is a detective.
Who is Melissa Mercado?
Mercado is a highly respected grade 3 detective within the NYPD, which she has been a part of since 2018. “If she is performing for money, if she has a side gig, the job would want to know about that,” one source said about the video. “The member would be obligated to file an off-duty employment application. I would say nothing she does in the video is the department’s business.”
Mercado’s moonlighting gig isn’t the first time an NYPD cop was caught in a compromising position. At the moment, Mercado has not commented on her appearance in the video clip. Prior to the official video release, S-Quire showcased a performance of 'Doin That' on BlockWork TV, which has garnered significant views.
