There are certain things where people can't live without in life — coffee, potato chips, and a good Chipotle bowl. On social media spread the rumor that the company might file bankruptcy.

However, after some investigation, it turns out that these rumors are far from true. Chipotle has confirmed that they are not filing for bankruptcy and have no plans to shut down anytime soon. In fact, the company is doubling down on growth, with plans to open over 300 new stores and expand its menu offerings. So, while rumors may spread fast, rest assured that your next burrito bowl is safe.

Are Chipotle stores closing in America?

Chipotle fans, don’t panic—your favorite Tex-Mex chain is not going anywhere. Recently, rumors have been swirling on social media, with some people claiming that the fast-casual restaurant is on the brink of bankruptcy and closing its doors for good. It all started when a Madrid-based publication reported the closure of a business venture associated with Chipotle, sparking widespread concern.

The rumors started when a Madrid-based publication reported the closure of Farmesa Fresh, a business venture in which Chipotle had invested. Naturally, these rumors spread like wildfire across social media.

“Why did my mom send a family chat saying Chipotle is going bankrupt?????? I refuse to believe that,” one user posted on X. “My coworker just told me Chipotle is closing all its stores and filing bankruptcy...I know that’s a lie,” another user commented.

While rumors on social media are often questionable, after witnessing so many restaurant closures (Red Robin, Denny's, Red Lobster), it’s easy to see why people would believe that Chipotle might be struggling. Fortunately, though, these rumors are just that—rumors. Chipotle representatives confirmed to Newsweek that the company is not filing for bankruptcy and isn't shutting down anytime soon.

Chipotle will open new stores across America

In fact, Chipotle plans to open over 300 new stores, 80 percent of which will feature a Chipotlane, their drive-through option. Honestly, who doesn't love the convenience of picking up a quick Chipotle meal while cruising through a drive-thru?

And the brand is expanding its menu too. Earlier this month, they introduced Chipotle Honey Chicken, which was the perfect addition to my burrito bowl.

At first, these rumors had me seriously worried that my favorite lunch option might be in jeopardy. But it looks like Chipotle is here to stay—and in fact, they’re focusing on growth, convenience, and flavor. So, for now, we can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that our beloved Tex-Mex chain isn’t going anywhere.
