Why Morgan Wallen's unexpected exit from 'SNL' is causing a stir among fans
Morgan Wallen’s unexpected exit from the stage during his second appearance as musical guest on Saturday Night Live has ignited controversy.

Morgan Wallen’s latest appearance on Saturday Night Live has sparked controversy after his unexpected behavior during the show’s conclusion. Fans and viewers are questioning what led to his abrupt exit from the stage.
The incident unfolded on March 29 during his second time as the musical guest, leaving many viewers surprised by Wallen's actions at the end of the night. As reactions flood social media, the situation has raised questions about his relationship with the show and the host.
Why Morgan Wallen abruptly left SNL's stage
On March 29, Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison hosted SNL for the first time, with Wallen performing as the musical guest. During the episode, Wallen performed two songs from his upcoming album I’m The Problem, including the title track and a song called "Just In Case."
At the end of the show, Madison and Wallen stood center stage to say their goodnights, which typically air during the post-credits roll. However, instead of interacting with the host and the cast, a longstanding SNL tradition, Wallen abruptly left the stage, as seen in a clip shared on X by the official SNL account.
The reason for Wallen’s early departure remains unclear, and according to TODAY.com, they reached out for comment but did not receive a response. While Wallen hasn’t addressed the situation directly, he did post an Instagram story early on March 30. The story featured a photo that appeared to be taken from an airplane window, showing another plane on the tarmac, accompanied by the caption, "Get me to God’s country."

Wallen has a history of controversial moments, some of which involve SNL. In October 2020, he was pulled from the show’s lineup after allegedly breaking COVID-19 protocols. He was later rebooked in December of the same year, and even joked about the incident during a sketch.
The musician also faced criticism in February 2021 after a video surfaced of him using a racial slur, which led to a temporary suspension of his recording contract. However, he made a comeback the following year, winning Album of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May 2022.
In December 2024, Wallen pled guilty to two counts of reckless endangerment after throwing a chair off a bar’s rooftop in April. He was sentenced to seven days in a DUI education center and two years of probation.
Audience reacts to Wallen's departure from SNL
Viewers of SNL and fans of Wallen shared their reactions to the singer’s behavior on social media. One user tweeted, "Morgan Wallen is the first musical guest or host on SNL that I can recall who just walked off-stage during ‘goodnights’ before the credits even started to roll."
Another user commented, "Morgan Wallen barely acknowledges Mikey Madison and then immediately storms off stage like a baby during the SNL goodbyes. Woof." A third tweet read, "Morgan Wallen said I didn’t want to be here either. That’s exactly what the show gets for having him in the first place. #SNL."
