Blue Origin's recent spaceflight on April 14, 2025, marked a significant milestone in the world of commercial space travel. The all-female crew, consisting of Katy Perry, Gayle King, and four other influential women, became the first all-female space crew to travel to space in over 60 years.

The mission, named NS-31, flew aboard the New Shepard spacecraft, providing a unique opportunity to experience weightlessness and the stunning views of Earth from the edge of space.

Who owns Blue Origin?

Billionaire Jeff Bezos, better known for being the owner of Amazon, is also the owner and founder of Blue Origin. The private company has been pioneering the way for commercial space travel since 2000.

Jeff Bezos even boarded Blue Origin's New Shepard for its first flight with a crew in July 2021, after the spacecraft went through 15 flight tests since 2012.

Who has already flown with Blue Origin?

Blue Origin's all-female crew is not the first time a high-profile figure has gone to space with the company. "Star Trek" actor William Shatner and NFL legend Michael Strahan have also participated in commercial space travel, as anyone who can afford it can.

After the flight of April14, only 58 people have ever been aboard the New Shepard spacecraft since its crewed flights began in 2021.

Can you afford to fly with Blue Origin?

While it may sound exciting, space tourism is still not a possibility for the average citizen. The prices, are still not publically listed, but it is reported a seat in the New Shepard can cost millions if the first ever ticket sold is any indicator.

The $28 million ticket price was acquired in an auction with 7,600 people registered to bid from 159 countries.
