J.K. Rowling, the renowned author of the "Harry Potter" series, has once again become embroiled in controversy, this time over her celebration of a recent ruling by the UK Supreme Court.

The decision, which took place on April 16, established that the definition of "woman" under UK equality legislation refers to biological sex, not gender identity. As a result, trans women with gender recognition certificates will not be protected from discrimination under the Equality Act in Britain.

Rowling's controversial celebration

J.K. Rowling expressed her support to the Supreme Court ruling with the hashtag through her social media with the hashtag #SupremeCourt and a picture of herself with a drink and a cigar "I love it when a plan comes together," she stated.

According to The Times, Rowling apparently donated £70,000 (about $93,000) to For Women Scotland, the campaign group that argued the case.

Since 2019, the Harry Potter author has been labeled as a "TERF" (trans-exclusionary radical feminist), for her outspoken and public support of anti-trans movement rights.
