Texas man killed her mum and dog in an exorcism
Alexander Taylor Valdez, a 23-year-old man from Texas, was arrested after his mother was found brutally killed. Valdez allegedly told authorities that the event was "an exorcism".
Valdez was arrested in Fort Worth, Texas, and was charged with murder in connection with the death of 58-year-old Teresita Sayson, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
The Fort Worth police department received a call around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18 from someone who asked to be anonymous. The anonymous caller stated that they received a photo via Snapchat from a group chat that was a photo of a woman laying on the ground who "was covered in something red, possibly blood."
When officers got to the scene, they spoke with Valdez, who answered the door covered in blood all over his "face, neck, chest, torso, hands, and feet", while holding a Bible. Valdez allegedly told police, "It was an exorcism," while exiting the house and taking a seat on a chair on the front porch.
Police said that after they entered the house, officers found Sayson dead in the master bedroom. According to them, Sayson's body was covered in blood and there was "trauma" visible on her face and upper body, and she was pronounced dead at 2:53 a.m.
Next to her body, officers found a dead dog and a broken jewelry box. The jewelry box contained blood and hair that matched Sayson's color and style.
According to the affidavit, when the police questioned Valdez, he allegedly told them that he had been “doing witchcraft to kill my mom." Officers asked him if anyone else had been in the house that day and Valdez allegedly responded "There is a dead body in there, it's my mom."
The affidavit also stated Valdez sent a photo of the bloody scene to a group chat in Snapchat. A number of friends in the chat said they later went to the scene. One friend allegedly warned the others not to open the picture. Another friend allegedly showed the picture to the police.
Valdez was taken to the police homicide office for questioning, but according to the arrest affidavit he declined to answer questions, and he asked for an attorney.
Records from Tarrant County Jail, obtained by CBS News, indicate Valdez's bond has been set at $750,000.
