Lionsgate has confirmed that McKenna Grace, the rising star known for her roles in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 'Regretting You', has been cast as Maysilee Donner in the upcoming film 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'.

This highly anticipated prequel to The Hunger Games will see Grace portray the character of Maysilee, a fellow District 12 tribute alongside Haymitch Abernathy, who will be played by Joseph Zada. The film is set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026.

What is the plot of 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'?

The movie will be based on the prequel written by Suzanne Collins, "Sunrise on the Reaping". Collins, the author of the Hunger Games books, present us another prequel; but this time we will be able to know more about the fan-favorite character Haymitch Abernathy, as the story centers around his games: The Second Quarter Quell

The story takes place 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games movies, and unlike the other prequel of the saga: "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", this time, we will see how the games are managed under President Snow.

'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' cast

The announcement on April 23, stated that Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak were cast as Haymitch Abernathy and Lenore Dove Baird respectively. As of now, Zada, Peak and Grace are the only actor confirmed for the movie.

Many rumors are circling around the internet about Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket; but for now, there is nothing confirmed.

The Hunger Games: a successful franchise

"Sunrise on the Reaping" sold 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Of those, 1.2 million copies were sold in the U.S., doubling the first-week sales of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" and tripling the first-week sales of "Mockingjay".

At the same time, it is expected that the movie will have the same level of success, as "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" grossed over $166.4 million just in the United States and Canada and 182.6 million around the world, leaving a total of $349 million
