Is Six Flags America closing? Amusement park in Prince George's County shuts down this fall
Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland, will close in November 2025. The closure is part of Six Flags' strategic shift, with redevelopment plans for the 500-acre property.

Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor, located in Prince George’s County, Maryland, will officially close their doors this November after over two decades of entertaining families in the area.
This decision was announced by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which stated that the parks are no longer a “strategic fit” with the company’s long-term growth plans.

According to Richard Zimmerman, President and CEO of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, both amusement parks will remain operating until November 2, 2025. Zimmerman, also stated just how much difficult it was for the company to decide to close Six Fags America due to the impact it would have on both employee and visitors.

“This was a difficult decision, and we recognize the impact it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park associates and guests,” said Zimmerman in a statement on Thursday. However, the company has vowed that with almost 70 full-time employees, all eligible workers will receive severance and benefits.

Plans for redevelopment of the Six Flags's 500-acre property
With Six Flag closing, the land will remain available, and the 500-acre property will be marked for redevelopment, as Six Flags Entertainment believes it will yield the highest return on investment.
Tara Jackson, Acting Prince George’s County Executive, has stated that while it's very sad news the park is closing, the county, Six Flags and other shareholder are working closer together to evaluate which way is the best course to take to support the community.
