Critical condition: 3-year-old rescued from pool in Chandler - Arizona
A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after being pulled unconscious from a backyard pool in Chandler, Arizona. Police and fire crews responded quickly, and the child was flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

On Monday, May 12, 2025, Chandler Police Department officers responded to an emergency call on Ashley Drive at 7pm local time.
A 3-year-old was pulled unconscious out of a backyard pool and is currently in critical condition, according to local police CPD's interim police media manager, Sony Wasu.

Whe police officers arrived to the scene, they found the unconscious boy and immediately began administering CPR, the Fire Department arrived shortly after.
The little kid was taken to the city's Regional Hospital and was later flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital. According to Sony Wasu, there is still an ongoing investigation, but as of now there is still no information regarding how the child ended up on the fence or whether the pool had a fence around it.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), between 2018 and 2021, Arizona experienced 1.42 unintentional drowning deaths per 100,000 residents annually, surpassing the national average of 1.31 per 100,000 during that timeframe. Additionally, children in between 1–4 years old typically die more from drowning than anything else.
The Children's Safety Zone has cross-referenced information from Fire Department Public Information Officers across the country, and it shows that the Maricopa and Pinal counties, which include Chandler and Phoenix, have had 25 water-related incidents, including eight adult deaths, only this year as of May 3.
