The tragic news was confirmed by his son, Álvaro Vargas Llosa, who shared a heartfelt statement on social media.

Mario Vargas Llosa passes away at 89 in Lima
Mario Vargas Llosa's son, Álvaro Vargas Llosa, revealed the news of his father's death in a post on X, expressed their family's deep grief and the comfort in the knowledge that his father led a fruitful life.
"His passing will sadden his family, friends, and readers around the world, but we find solace in the fact that he lived a long, diverse, and fruitful life," said Álvaro.
According to the Nobel's son, there will be no public ceremony. The funeral and burial will be private.

Mario Vargas Llosa's legacy
The Peruvian author was a prominent figure in the literary world. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010 "Cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance, revolt, and defeat.”
However, he had many great works, including The Time of the Hero, Conversation in the Cathedral, and The Feast of the Goat. They all talked about themes like political instability, human rights, and societal struggles; which made him one of the greatest authors of his time.
