Brian Jeffrey Raymond, former U.S. diplomat to Mexico, has been exposed as a sexual predator following the Justice Department's declassification of his file. On his career at the U.S. Embassy, Raymond had developed an image as a clean official, backed by his CIA connections. However, behind that, was a disturbing reality: he used his position to lure women, drug them and commit sexual abuse. The revelation of his criminal conduct has generated a strong backlash and called into question the integrity of those in diplomatic positions.

Recently, the U.S. Department of Justice declassified the file documenting all of performer diplomat crimes. They found testimonies of women who were victims between 2018 and 2020, the period in which he was stationed in Mexico City. He used dating apps such as Tinder or Bumble, generated trust with his image and invited them to his diplomatic residence, where he drugged them with adulterated food and drinks

Modus operandi of U.S. ex-diplomat: Tinder dates and narcotics at dinner.

Raymond's strategy was the same. He posted friendly photos to his Tinder and Bumble profiles, where he would introduce himself as a diplomat. After the “match”, he would arrange dates in public places to gain the women's trust according to the documents of the case.

Afterwards, he would invite them to his apartment - paid for by the U.S. government - and there he would offer them luxury dinners with wine, meat, cheese and chocolate. These foods were adulterated with substances to sedate them. The recently unsealed case file reveals that Brian Jeffrey Raymond sexually abused at least 9 women in Mexico.

Raymond was set free due to diplomacy immunity

The assaults occurred mainly at a residence in Polanco, in the Mexican capital. Although the police intervened in 2020, when a woman asked for help from the balcony, Raymond was released thanks to his diplomatic immunity. Also, the audiovisual material found by the FBI showed that he recorded the abuses and stored hundreds of photographs and videos of his unconscious victims.

Brian Jeffrey was finally sentenced to 30 years in prison in September 2024, due to his conviction for his crimes. The compensation was US$10,000 to each victim. However, the women he abused indicated that no amount could compensate for the damage done.
