Elon Musk says he's back to 24/7 work at X and Tesla, steps away from politics
After a widespread outage disrupted access to X, Elon Musk pledged to refocus on his businesses, reduce political involvement, and spend more time at Tesla, xAI, and SpaceX amid mounting investor pressure.

Elon Musk will redirect his attention back to business after a worldwide outage affected X, formerly known as Twitter. This outage impacted tens of thousands of users in dozens of countries, making headlines again as critics began taking note of Musk’s bifurcated attention to politics and his companies.
Now that the dust has settled, Musk claimed he’s “back to spending 24/7 at work,” reaffirming his efforts at X, xAI, and both Tesla and SpaceX. The statement comes amid growing pressure from investors and signals of Musk’s reduced involvement in politics.

Despite the comment also occurring after the platform failed, Musk also stated that he re-committed to Tesla and Starlink.
“I need to pay excessive attention to X/xAI and Tesla,” he wrote. “While preparing for next week’s Starship launch, we are deploying crucial technologies.”
Referring to the recent service outages, Musk said: “This week's X downtime demonstrates the need to make major operational upgrades to the system. The redundancy for system failover should have kicked in, but it did not,” in response to a post about the large outages that affected billions of users.
The outage impacted more than just the U.S.; customers in Germany, Spain, France, India, Canada, Australia, and the U.K. also had issues. At this time, X has not responded to a request for comment from Reuters about the situation.
Musk cut ties with politics
Musk, who had dosed almost $300 million to back Donald Trump's presidential run and various Republicans during that time, announced recently that he intends to drastically reduce political spending. This change shows Musk is getting back to business, at a time when he faces great concern from investors.
Previously, Musk led the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, whose purpose was to cut tens of thousands of jobs, and cancel billions of dollars in public contracts and grants. But his public political posts sparked protests against Tesla across the U.S. and Europe, and ultimately saw a decline in sales at Tesla — they had their first annual drop in vehicle deliveries last year.
Investors have been worried about how much of Musk's time is spent on Tesla. In response to these concerns, Musk told investors last month that he would reduce his time with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to one or two days a week starting in May.
