Former Biden's press secretary announced she is not longer a Democrat
Jean-Pierre was the first black woman and the first openly LGBTQ+ person to serve as White House press secretary

In Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines, Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary during Biden's administration, announced that she had abandoned the Democratic Party and became an independent.
In the upcoming book, the author explores 'why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as Independents,' according to her publisher, Hachette Book Group.
Jean-Pierre career on the party
Her career in the party started in 2004, when she directed the Southeast region for John Edwards' presidential campaign. After that, she took the same role in Obama's first campaign. She also worked in the White House, first in the Labor Department as a liaison and then as regional director in the Office of Political Affairs.
During Biden's administration, she served as Principal Deputy Press Secretary. Later, in 2022, Jean-Pierre took over the White House Press Secretary's position after the resignation of Jen Psaki. She stayed in the office until the end of Biden's administration.

Jean-Pierre controversy in the White House
During her time at the White House, Jean-Pierre faced some critics who called her incoherent and unaware. Biden defended her against these accusations. The former Press Secretary also spoke out to defend Hunter Biden's pardon in December 2024. Her last criticism is about Biden's cancer diagnosis and how his staff 'covered' it during his last months in the Oval Office, by President Donald Trump.
Despite the critics, Jean-Pierre was the first black woman and the first openly LGBTQ+ person to hold the position of Press Secretary. Her book, which reviews her exit from the Democratic Party and explores the advantages of being independent, will be published on October 21. It will add to the list of books that review Biden's presidency by White House reporters.
